Dr Ann Turner, DVM, clinic owner & primary veterinarian
Ann Turner has always been an animal lover and drawn to emergency medicine. She stresses that her number one priority is the patients and their owners!
Dr. Turner received her Associates of Science at NWC in Powell, WY and Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology at the University of Wyoming. She then went on to Fort Collins, CO where she earned her DVM from Colorado State University. She worked during her studies as an assistant at an emergency clinic in Aurora, Colorado.
She spent the first 1 ½ years after graduation at Cross Creek Animal Hospital. Her emphasis was equine and small animal medicine. Dr. Turner then spent 10 years at Animal Urgent Care in Fayetteville, NC. One of her most challenging and successful procedures was open heart surgery on a puppy! “I love my profession and my passion will always be emergency work and soft tissue surgery!”
Dr. Turner noticed the need for an after hour emergency facility in The Sandhills. This propelled her dream to open her own emergency clinic. The vision finally became a reality when she opened Small Animal Emergency Services in Aberdeen on January 18, 2006! Due to a steady increase of patients, a new facility has been built on US Hwy 1 in the Vass/Southern Pines area. The new facility has over 4000 square feet and was completed in April 2009.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Turner has competed in dressage on many levels and is an avid horse woman. Her many hobbies include boating and scrap booking as well as her horses. She resides at the “Halt Salute Farm” in West End, NC, with her husband, Danny, 5 dogs, 2 cats and 2 horses!
Mary Ellen Brown, DVM
Dr. Brown graduated from North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Prior to completing her Veterinary Medical Degree, Dr. Brown worked in the financial arena, and also as an exotic animal keeper at three different Zoos around the country. Dr. Brown enjoys emergency medicine as well as regular “day” practice, and also assists shelters with spay/neuter surgeries. Special medical interests include: Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine and Dermatology. When Dr. Brown has free time, she enjoys writing, gardening, painting and reading.

Alan J. Rose, Veterinary Assistant
Born in Canada, Alan moved to Southern Pines, NC in the mid 1980s. He grew up at the Moore County Hounds Fox Hunt, where his father, Clive Rose, was the Huntsman. After college, he moved around the United States, building a family of his own. In 2005, Alan brought his family back to the Sandhills.
He has been with Small Animal Emergency Services since October 2007 and has found his niche, caring and assisting for the dogs and cats requiring his attention and expertise!
Alan is a “Mr. Mom” during the week for his wife, 2 daughters, 14 fish, 1 cat and 2 dogs. He enjoys trying to help all of our pets stay healthy, guess which breeds make up your mixed breed dog, and practice his Rock-n-Roll trivia!
